That's a strong tropical wave nearing the African coast.

I spy Cristobol (if it holds its own after exiting the coast) 8-)

thats some very deep convection there, though how much of the convection is the wave or just the usual daytime heating storms I don't know but given bertha has gone on to become a powerful system we probably need to watch every single cape Verde wave now closely.

Three hours later, minimal changes.

There appears to be a trough in the eastern Atlantic., so it may not be that favorable.

Lets see what happens when that big complex of convection emerges West Africa.

There seems to be quite a bit of SAL off the African coast.

Wave looks good but will likely go poof in a few days. However, I wonder what that must look like on radar as that is awfully intense convection

There were plenty of folks on here that said "Bertha" would go poof too, and look what it became???

If folks would have called Bertha to be this strong, they would have been told to put down their crack pipes...

Just goes to show you that ya never know....Just when you think you have the tropics figured out, they go to show you that we humans don't have a clue......

Well convection has weakened quite a lot. Still these waves do start to need to be watched and even if it does nlothing for a while there is always going to be a chance further west it will find more favorable conditions later down the line.

Is that a swirl I see near 8N 46W? Anything in that area interests me because of Barbados' location.

I can see the small area of convection your talking about but to be honest I can't see any circulation with it, still I could be wrong.

That is quite an area of showers near 8N 55W. I wonder what it's chances are.

It's moving NW right now, so it should clear South America.

I just noticed that Generator! The last visible shots of the afternoon didnt seem to yield any type of low level circulation and there are no buoy's in the area for pressure observations. It does appear the majority of the convection has begun a WNW movement and will likely clear SA.

Could be a trick but it's a lot of convection. I wonder if it's land induced. Wish I had a longer-term loop to look at.

as far as I can tell it has no model support so we will need to watch for it to persist.
