We live on Hatteras, bought a generator today. One to watch!

NWS Melbourne, FL 2pm Sat Wx Discussion:

THURSDAY THROUGH SATURDAY...WILL FOLLOW OFFICIAL NHC TRACK WHICH TAKES POWERFUL HURRICANE ISABEL NW...EAST OF THE BAHAMAS. IT MUST BE REMEMBERED THAT THIS IS AN OUTLOOK AND TRACK ERRORS ASSOCIATED WITH THE OUTLOOK PERIOD CAN BE AS MUCH AS 400 NAUTICAL MILES. ALTHOUGH IT IS TOO EARLY TO TELL EXACTLY WHAT IMPACTS ISABEL WILL HAVE ON EC FL...AT A MINIMUM WE WILL SEE LARGE SWELLS AND POUNDING SURF AFFECT THE COASTLINE BY MIDWEEK. THIS MAY RESULT IN SOME SIGNIFICANT BEACH EROSION. BASED ON CURRENT WAVE MODELS...HIGH SURF ADVISORIES WILL PROBABLY BE NEEDED AND COULD BE NEEDED FOR SEVERAL DAYS.
LATEST DISCUSSION WITH NHC INDICATES ISABEL MAY SLOW DOWN AND REMAIN SLIGHTLY SOUTH AND WEST OF CURRENT TRACK MODELS. SUCH POWERFUL SYSTEMS OFTEN PRODUCE THEIR OWN ENVIRONMENTS AND SOMETIMES DO NOT INITIALLY REACT TO THE SUBTLE EXTERNAL FORCES ACTING ON THEM.

rainydaze wrote:Well here it is!! I am the first to report it. Tonight's news had a reporter standing in front of HOME DEPOT!! Followed by a snip from Palm Beach County Emergency of Operations guy saying: Take the weekend to get prepared.(the whole better to be safe than sorry bit)

Anyway, another met said NHC forecast track is good news, but certainly not written in stone.

Other snippets I heard:
-a little more encouraging
-monitor over weekend
-always a possibility
-keep an eye on

Finally, now a second news station has announced they will be giving 1/2 updates all weekend.

A little early for that don't cha think?

The hype train is a comin' folks :)

no wonder there is so much complacency in sofla..channel 10 in miami had extended newscasts all weekend...ridiculous

A met this morning stated, "It does tend to look as though it could be headed our way, but WE think it will cut close and go back out to sea. So you may prepare if you would like, but you still have a few days to see what happens."

Our local Fox/NBC Met is telling that all the Models are coming up on a solution and it looks like Cape Hatteras is the target and Hampton roads is next...

Our local channel(NBC Channel 11) is saying a direct hit at Norfolk, Va and DC. Saying that DC hasn't seen a hurricane since 1933 and that was a cat 1
Will be interesting to see how this plays out

Non mets forecast

#95 Postby tanda35 » Mon Sep 15, 2003 8:58 pm

Let's see, a cloud seeding plane is going up just b4 she makes landfall somewhere on the east coast of N.A. It will then sprinkle ferry dust in her eye and cause her to be momentarily blinded and with that, they will turn on there after burner and high tale out over the Atlantic and suck Izzy out with them. How zat sound? :D

Italian TV news are reporting about Isabel...
That does not happen very often, at least not before a cane's land.
Be careful out there.

Nothing too new here cause we're not in her path anymore... Just "we'll keep track of her.."

With the new tracks and advisories and our NBC met is "giddy" because we're not going to get the worst case scenario and that nobody is going to really need to evacuate the Hampton Roads area with the inland route that the storm plans to take.

Seeing as how the only thing that could win a WS for the Mets was the Curse of the Bambino, I don't think the Mets stand much of a chance against Isabel...
