actually if you look at the numbers then yes it is typical. But if you look at what has formed this season only Gordon and Florence have been anything decent. The rest of the storms have been pathetic - really pathetic.

this is not typical for "an avg" season by any means. At least you will have some storms that go west longer than a day before turning north.

This season is NOT typical

The only thing not typical is this continuing regurtitation of people unhappy about hurricane season. I really do think people want hurricanes and tropical storms hitting the US in order to be satisfied. A little play on what Joe Bastardi says... Enjoy the Hurricane season, it's the only one you've got.

I won't argue with you the semantics of the word "typical" because it's an unwinnable argument. Rather, let me re-word it to say that there is nothing "unusual" about 2006.

Furthermore, I'll make the assertion that 2004 and 2005 were HIGHLY "unusual".

HOWEVER, I can assure you that I've seen many seasons over the years that resemble 2006. I've seen plenty of years where conditions were hostile. I've seen plenty of years where everything that formed turned north into the Central Atlantic. Do you have any idea how BORING some of those years were in the 70's, 80s, and 90s?

I lived in South Florida during that time and I remember the media always telling us that we were in the most vulnerable hurricane area of the country, and I remember thinking, "How the heck could this be the most vulnerable place to get a hurricane? Every stinking storm turns north into the Atlantic hundreds of miles before it reaches here." And they all did, until 1992.

Perhaps because this season reminds me of so many from the past, I don't consider it that unusual.

This season will be famous for storm recurvatures east of 60W and dry air that kills everything that tries to form. Bring on winter already.

If it keeps up just as it has – other than a strong tropical storm impacting the mid-Atlantic states and Bermuda getting sideswiped with minimal hurricane conditions – it'll soon be relegated to the dust heap of less than memorable (and fairly typical) Atlantic seasons. Those seasons capable of being recalled in even moderate detail by only the most avid of tropical weather junkies.

And no one...from St. George's, Grenada to St. Johns, Newfoundland, and all points in between...is complaining. :D

...for cocksure even if they don't have a clue what they are talking about pathetic whiners who don't really want to track storms, watch storms or be educated by what is going on and gain from all the really good lessons that pro mets and other knowledgeable folks have given here this year. Heads up, children, this has been a wonderful hurricane season...baffling experts (learn!), confounding predictions (learn!), not harming many (give thanks!), and just ONE of many seasons in a life of seasons.

This season will be famous for the large amounts of crow served to the people(including me) who said the season would pick up soon.

This season is already famous for a bunch of people complaining how quiet it is...even while we had a Cat 3 out in the Atlantic...
