Yeah if this this doen't come on in it will be bad news...The winds are letting the fires roam free...Very hard to breath around here...

ORLANDO, Fla. -- A low-pressure system rotating in the Atlantic Ocean and bringing strong winds and rough surf to the area is gaining strength while moving west and could be the first named storm of the hurricane season, which doesn't officially begin until June 1.

Local 6 Meteorologist Larry Mowry said the nontropical low-pressure system is close to taking on tropical characteristics and could be named Andrea later Tuesday or Wednesday.

"We got this information from Max Mayfield, who is working for us now at Local 6. He's our hurricane consultant here at Local 6. He talked with the National Hurricane Center and passed along some very good information to us," Mowry said.

Max is part of the Ch. 10 team for 2007. He'll be offering commentary on this year's storms. He will not differ from the NHC predictions, just act as a liason.

It's interesting the article says it could be named Andrea later tuesday. What information would lead the NHC to upgrade it before recon investigates?

Down in Collier (south of us), we've got a 2000 acre wildfire going as well... part of I75 is now closed in Sarasota county (north of us), and visibility/air quality here in Cape Coral is bad and getting worse as well. The wind kicking up this afternoon isn't making things easier for our SW Florida firefighters, and more wildfires are sure to pop up where they're not wanted.

Sorry to say, but bring this puppy on...we need the rain..badly! ALL of Florida does.

Unfortunately they are saying it might not bring much rain.

LBAR says Charleston. So Charleston should be out of the woods.

:uarrow: For the newbies, that's a joke.

Looks like this thing could come right through my area..... ANY rain would be welcomed and from what I am reading from all you folks down south, I really would not be surprised if firefighters from other parts of the country start to converge on Florida. We are going to need the help. We have two fires, one in Bradford County and one in Alachua county that merged yesterday and is now one that has burned over 1600 acres so far...... BRING ON HURRICANE SEASON!

More convection over the center and better established "bands" of convection.

It is clearly intensifying, with additional convection
and better organization. I expect Subtropical Storm Andrea
to be classified by this evening.

NRL's winds are what, already 55 mph sustained with this
low.

Fires are scary, over here where I live there are 6800 acres burning. The people that live over by the fires have had their cars packed for 2 days waiting to get evacuated. They say when the call comes they have to leave immediately. Brings back to many memories of the fires of 98. Don't want to have to go thru that again. Never thought I would be wishing for a storm. Unfortunately the winds have been strong here the last 2 days. Just blew my 9lb dog over. (Even though that was pretty funny, look on his face was classic :D )
