Lay off the caffeine.

haven't had any caffine in like 4 or 5 days

Are you sure? I wondered if maybe this was your room:

Or am I being callous? j/k Astroman, gotta respect the state of Michigan.

Besides, we might all need a room like that pretty soon if Irene gets overly interesting! She's interesting enough for me as is, and while I still think she's a fish, I'm beginning to have second thoughts about that.

wxman57 wrote:I can definitely see a mid-level circulation center near 22.5N/53.5W moving to the WNW-NW at maybe 10-12 kts. It's been visible for 3-4 hours. Can't tell if there is any surface reflection - probably not. Even though outflow looks a little better, convection does not. As Derek said, Irene continues to fight for her life this afternoon. I don't think it qualifies for TD status, still. There just isn't a well-defined LLC.

It seems very strange to me that the NHC passed Irene off to the HPC this morning. Anyone know what's up with that? Problems at the NHC today?

We never conclusively figured that out. I doubted that there were problems at the NHC campus since all of the non-hurricane specialist products did come out of TPC today.

It may be like last year where HPC did one day of morning and afternoon packages on Hurricane Frank with NHC resuming in the evening... we'll see shortly.

To me it is looking pretty good. The Circulation is definatly there. It almost looks like it has an eye. It is moving WNW. It seriously looks a heck of alot stonger than it should as a TD.

here is what i'm looking at Irene visible loop

I think this system looks awsome

I went to FIU today to pick up some forms for graduation and then decided to take a walk towards the NHC and see what was up. Although I didnt go inside, there were cars parked in the lot and it seemed to be in operating mode so Im not sure whats up.

Look at infrared. There isn't much going on convection-intensity-wise. Nothing greater than we've seen in the last 24+ hours. That's what Derek and wxman57 are talking about

TD for now.

HURRICANE CENTER AT 11 PM EDT.

Yep, just like during Frank last year.

Actually, the center dissipated overnight. The only thing I see that looks better now is the outflow. But the convection is decreasing rapidly, and there is still no well-defined LLC.

I think it would be funny if at the last minute Irene is a cat 2 and about to make landfall but then she shifts north and runs up the east coast and hits maine as a TS
