First Day of Spring (and Tropical Cyclone Formation)
It seems that Spring arrived in South Florida this morning - the air had that "first day of Spring" smell to it...
The Miami NWSFO has mentioned in the past that South Florida's "Spring" does seem to begin on or around February 15, so, perhaps this is true...
We'll see what our warm Winter will mean for the upcoming season (just under 5 months away)...

Re: First Day of Spring
Hope so. No need for winter- a waste of time.
Perhaps with the global warming or climate change or what ever it is called now, spring will come earlier and earlier. Fine by me.

Seems like May-June to me. Did we even have a winter. The most I did for winter was break out the windbreaker about 8 or 9 times.

Re: First Day of Spring
I've lived down here in south florida my whole life, would like to see snow once-lol. But this winter sure seemed hot, we only had that one real cold day right after new years day, it's in the 80s here at my house now.

This thread is completely unrelated to tropical activity - it should be moved to Winter Weather or USA Weather...

Isn't that why people like to live in south Florida?

Incidentially, I was once told by someone at the HRD (or NHC, I can't remember) that there is a small statistical maximum of tropical storm activity during the first week of February (in the western Caribbean), so, apparently this period has passed quietly...
Just something to think about...

Wow congrats,i love springs. Here in Bulgaria it is winter now,the spring comes in 22 April. But last two winters (2007/2006) are very strange,no snow, temps - +20* somedays. We had only one huge winter storm

But i prefer that winter than last cuz we didnt have a snow whole year and in the summer - the highiest temperatures ever - up +45*

As it turns out, perhaps the "Spring" I felt the other day was warm air advection that helped to spawn the severe weather outbreak 700 miles to our northwest, just 24 hours later...
Still, our temps are above average today - the cable technician came by this morning, and, was sweating after working outside for 30 minutes or so...

Big rumble of thunder here just now - there was a lot of Springtime-type vigor in the pre-frontal squall lines that swept across Florida over the past 18 hours...
Rare in South Florida were the supercell-type thunderstorms seen late last night, and, the Peninsula was under a tornado watch for an unusually long period of time, from yesterday afternoon until this morning...
As far as tropical related, hard to say...
