This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Texas Convection moving toward Gulf of Mexico

#1 Postby ColdFront77 » Sat Aug 09, 2003 4:14 pm

The convection moving toward the Gulf of Mexico from southeastern Texas is moving toward the upper level trough over the Gulf of Mexico.

I am not saying it is going to happen, but tropical development has occurred with these situations. Dr. Steve Lyons mentioned it this morning (I believe it was the 11:50am Eastern Tropical Update). He said it is something to watch.

Alicia - the last big hurricane Houston encountered was from a front that pasted into the GOM. As always during this time of the year we need to watch.

I posted about this, this morning in the Relief in TX? thread in U.S. Weather. This huge blob over TX is a mesoscale convective system (MCS) that's riding over the ridge (anticyclone).

As Drezee pointed out, Danny had its origins as well from an MCS which actually came down from Minnesota and dove all the way into the GOM. However, observe the wind flow pattern on IR satellite. Most of the energy will probably split, with most of it going back to the west around the Plains Dome.

Yes, Mike... I viewed "Relief in TX?" in the "USA Forum," and viewed some satellites, radar and both on TWC, too. :)

It has been fun, but time consuming catching up on posts in this and other forums. :D
