This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Will the EPAC ever get a hurricane?

#1 Postby OtherHD » Sun Aug 10, 2003 10:51 am

Well it looks like neither Guillermo nor Hilda are going to become hurricanes. The NHC forecast with each of them continues to come down slightly with each advisory. NHC weakens Guillermo from here on out and only takes Hilda to 55 kts before it hits cooler waters, whereas the previous Hilda forecasts took her to hurricane strength. So as it stands right now, 6 storms in a row have failed to become canes with 2 more about to join them. That makes 8 storms...incredible. What a dud season for the EPAC. Yawn.

Seems like the EPAC may be having the same problem that the ATL did last year with several named storm before a hurricane was finally designated.
