#1 Postby DanKellFla » Sun Jun 01, 2008 9:26 am

Just curious. When does the Bermuda High settle into its summer position?

I read somewhere that it doesn't stay in one place all summer. It kinda oscillates back and forth.

As to when it settles in - I have no clue. :P

Just noting from prior summer's around here, it SEEMS like it tends to settle in during July and into August. This is when we get our hottest and most humid days and it's mostly because the Bermuda High is pumping up the heat and humidity from the south.

Yeah it doesn't settle per say but generally there will be a mean position where it hangs around the longest. We see that in quite a few seasons in that even if most CV go out to sea if the high moves briefly into a place where the system will be passing by then it could send into towards the east coast of the USA, just as an example.

typically the Bermuda high 'settles' in around late July thru early September... ironically when the CV season kicks into gear.... it could be earlier and it could be longer.... each season varies.

As it was stated in an earlier thread, the Bermuda high oscillates positions throught the entire year. We normally see a position not an exact point of where the center of the ridge is.

Not only that but the persistant high pressure stifles convection and also blocks rain producing systems such as cold fronts and yes tropical systems as well.
