This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

First to recieve hurricane warning.

#1 Postby OuterBanker » Tue Jun 10, 2008 11:45 am

Here is my proposition for a new contest. Which zone will be the first to receive a hurricane warning (conus only) and when. The winner would be determined by zone first, date second. Contest could end in a week, July1 or at the naming of Bertha. With the MJO phase we are now in I doubt anything will develop in the near future. It could be fun. BTW, here is a fun page from tpc. Lots of interesting charts about hurricane climatology. Found out I live in one of the highest counties (Dare) for the number of strikes in the country.

Top 5 1 Monroe Co SW coast Fl (31)

2 Miami/Dade (25)

3 Dare Co. (NC) (23)

4 & 5 tie Carteret Co (NC) Broward Co (Fl) eac with 22

I will predict that either zone 3 or zone 5 will receive the first hurricane warning of the 2008 season.

I can't find where the "zones" are shown (I guess I have not been paying attention).

I say whatever zone that includes the Panhandle of FL, is my choice.

I say Cameron or Vermillion Parish in Louisiana will be the first in the ConUS to get a warning first coming from a Carribbean Storm.

To be honest I don't know enough counties of the US states to be able to make that call but I think the first place to get a hurricane warning will be north Carolinas though a TS warning is probable in LA as well as Florida before that time.
