JMO But I think water temps are really overrated when it comes to tropical development. Wind shear, dry air etc have a much bigger impact on development than SST's do.

A good part of the Gulf usually exceeds 30º each Summer, and there isn't a cyclone in the Gulf every year. High SSTs, while important, aren't the only thing needed for an active season.
