There is no "crash". To explain it simply, either one absorbs the other, or they just circle around each other.

Yes it has happened before but it's very rare, mostly happens in the Pacific.

In the Atlantic the last time we saw two systems doing the Fujiwhara Effect was in 2004 when Lisa interacted with a strong disturbance. At the end since Lisa was the strongest, the disturbance weakened and Lisa absorbed it. In 1995 Hurricanes Iris and Humberto interacted but neither dissipated. Later Hurricane Iris interacted with TS Karen and Karen lost the fight!

Two typhoons in the west Pacific merged in their dying stage in 1994, ending their life as one single extratropical storm.

If I remember right, Wilma swallowed Alpha, or what was left of Alpha in one bite.

What about a Cat 5 heading west while a Cat 3 that was nearly stationary because of a high pressure blocking it. What would happen then? I assume the outflow and shear caused by the Cat 5 would weaken the Cat 3?
