Thunderstorm in Sahara Desert NOW
Look at the beautiful convection over the Sahara Desert today, and the waves in Africa. Those little bright red dots are some powerful thunderstorms causing a very rare flood in the desert.

Sahara storms
So I guess this will help to keep the dust outbreaks down too. Everything seems to be coming together for an incredible peak season this year. The one factor not talked about much is the large area of warmer than normal water that has grown in the east Pacific. It is quite large now extending west from South America.
One more thought- wouldn't it be nice to photograph those storms over Africa? I bet they are spectacular.
