Does TS Fay 2008 have retirement cred?
Sounds to me that TS Fay may just get her name retired, from the damage reports so far and the unusual track and tropical behavior...

The flooding my friend, the flooding. The city was back up and running 1 week later, schools were closed for 1 week only, and I even had power back in 4 days. Juan was a very bad storm, worst I've ever seen personally, save maybe 'White Juan' for sheer ***** and giggles, but Fay has dumped torrential rain that will cause a lot more property damage than Juan.

Juan also hit Halifax head-on as a Category 2 hurricane. Usually, hurricanes that make it to Canada are low-end Category 1s that are undergoing extratropical transition.
I forget if Juan struck at high tide or not.
Environment Canada has an excellent website devoted to Hurricane Juan.

I think Floridians needed an Allison lesson to 'wise' up.
After all, it's not even a category 2 hurricane, what can be so bad about it? riiiiiiight.

Tell that to the people with 5 feet of water in their house.

Yeah, Florida pretty much has concrete instead of soil now.

Um yes? And Fay hasn't heavily damaged the Space and Treasure coasts?

Allison killed 55 people in the U.S., which is a lot more than Fay has killed (I know there were some deaths in the Caribbean but I don't think there's even been any in the U.S. yet).
EDIT: Nevermind, 2 deaths have now occurred in the U.S. It still has the potential to be retired if it does the unexpected and stays over the Gulf and strengthens while still moving very slowly or the flooding accelerates across the southern U.S. and more deaths and catastrophic flooding occur, which is still a possibility.

not close to 5 billion. We need to keep some perspective
this is closer to 1998 Frances/1994 Alberto. Very bad events, but not retirement worthy

6 or 7 deaths, but damage to crops could really inflate the total. However there is no checklist to determine if it is bad or not. When all is said and done, it's probably worse than Klaus. It's not such a big deal anymore to get rid of names, so they may request to keep another storm named Fay from hitting Florida. They should've retired Ernesto a couple of years ago.
