Airport Closings

#1 Postby mommasue » Tue Sep 09, 2008 11:01 pm

Does anybody know when they normally close an airport when a hurricane is approaching that area? I am scheduled to fly from Phoenix on 9/12 to Mobile going through Houston. Just trying to decide if I need to leave a day earlier. Any advice would be appreciated.

If it were me, I'd leave Thursday instead. That or reroute your ticket through Memphis, etc. Houston may be a madhouse by then and you might be bumped at the least.

We flew back from NYC on Sunday during Gustav. NYC to Memphis to Mobile. When we got home there was a message from Delta telling us our flight from Memphis to Mobile had been cancelled due to weather. Gustav wasn't even coming here.

The earlier you get to Hurley, the better. At least in my opinion. Stay safe.

Here's hoping you made your flight and are back in Hurley. I'm sure it was a rough one as the winds here in Mobile kicked up early this morning.

Got in safe and sound, could tell that the wind was kicking up during the landing. Thanks for asking!
