Well, I'm not in that area, obviously, but we have family in Maine and Nova Scotia (I come from a VERY big family!). Since there's family up there, I've been checking out the news and weather for them. When we visited there years ago (before marriage and kids), we spent the night in Yarmouth waiting to take the ferry from there to Portland the next morning and a hurricane was coming up the Eastern Seaboard ( I don't remember the year or the name of the storm, sorry). But, the folks at the hotel and restaurant had no clue: when we asked about it, they told us they don't get hurricanes there! Fortunately, that storm did turn and spare them. However, after Juan, I don't think I'd hear anyone there say they don't get hurricanes.
Anyway... here are some websites for weather and news I was checking:
CBC news story on Kyle: http://www.cbc.ca/canada/nova-scotia/story/2008/09/27/kyle-hurricane.html
Environment Canada- Yarmouth:http://www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/city/pages/ns-29_metric_e.html
Bar Harbor NWS forecast page: http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?CityName=Bar+Harbor&state=ME&site=CAR&textField1=44.3824&textField2=-68.2119&e=0
Good luck all you Mainers and Blue-nosers!

light breeze, barely making the leaves move. I expect conditions to deteroriate over the next few hours and into this evening. I'm about 15 miles from the coast, about half way up Nova Scotia. The center is forecasted to come within 50 miles of me, so I expect sustained TS force winds.

Finally starting to breeze up here in Yarmouth. Started raining pretty hard around noon; a couple streets have some minor flooding, but nothing to worry about so far. What is worrying me the most is that the marsh outside my house is already starting to flood. It's only ever flooded our lawn once before, and our basement didn't flood, but you never know. I'll keep you all posted on any major developments as long as I have an internet connection and enough battery power on my laptop. Stay safe everyone!

Starting to get really windy now. No trees down as of yet, but our pond is all churned up and there are leaves everywhere. I took a video earlier when it was starting to get windy. I'll post some more as conditions deteriorate.

(Our digital camera is really old and the videos are soundless and only 20 seconds long, so bear with me!)

It's not bad at all yet up here in Truro. Looks like the center will come within 50 miles according to 5 pm track.

I'm blogging about Kyle for those interested. Just posting all the info, and graphics, I can come across right now. I'll update every three hours or so. Seeing how there isn't that much happening here in SW New Brunswick right now; just some light to at times modern rain, and very light winds 5-10 mph (force 2 tops):

It's starting to get really gusty up here. Expect it to get worse.

Wind has become a lot stronger in the last couple hours, and a couple of trees have fallen around our house already, one nearly landing right across our driveway. I'm actually surprised we still have power, because it has been blowing really hard, sustained winds of 60-70 km/h right now, gusts well past 100 km/h. Took some more videos down at the beach in Wedgeport, including one of me getting blown around pretty good :P. Here they are:

Nothing much here, yet:

Still light to moderate rain, wind NNE winds of 15 gusting to 33 km/h, or 7 gusting to 15 mph. We are on the Western side of the storm, and the projected track has shifted further to the right since yesterday. As such I doubt we'll get much in terms of high winds (above 50 mph, in gusts) here in SW NB, even less I'd say in SE Maine. Wind wise, I'm calling for a non-event outside of Nova Scotia, oh and maybe SE New Brunswick, and parts of P.E.I. Nothing worse than a weak to moderate (from west to east) Nor'Easter.

You'd be very near the center (if not in the eyewall) right now based on satellite.

# Wind gusts: 74km/h

But that's not true.. it's not that bad out at the moment.

Center just made landfall about 10 minutes ago; the winds died down really quickly and have been calm ever since. I'm guessing hit somewhere between Yarmouth and Pubnico. Thankfully the winds on this side of the storm won't be as strong as on the other side.
