System off NC coast?

#1 Postby CaneMaster » Wed Nov 05, 2008 12:21 pm

Anybody else notice the circulation closing off near the coast of NC, is this a storm is it extratropical subtropical occluded front ????? I am curious as the weather has gotten quite nasty since this thing rolled in and it's bringing some good wind with it, I couldn't help but notice on visible a circulation looking low level and closed off just off the coast of NC, heading in a north like movement. Anyone who is a little more knowledgeable could you explain this system to me as I'm just a newb.....................

It's clearly non-tropical. The NHC doesn't think it has a chance to become tropical or subtropical. But it looks quite interesting.

Looks intruiging to say the least.... Getting really windy and squally almost feels tropical but more than likely isn't

Funny thing is this is doing a repeat scenario of the unnamed storm, forming the same way and looks very very similar....................

Wish there were more people checking this out, it'd be nice to have some other people's input on this storm

That is not a pinhole eye.
...I don't want to have to bring pictures.

Yea I kinda realized that one too in the newer sat pics, it was that black hole was visible in a couple frames of the vis. so i was beginning to think it was but the newer sat pics sorta proved that otherwise....

Would you say sub-tropical or extra-tropical, I'm leaning towards sub as it's actually been warmer than the last week ....

Nothing close to even sub tropical in my opinion.

Look at the IR.

I'm not going by IR I'm going by actual being here on the coast next to it, You cannot just pin to IR and such Look how many systems have been overlooked in the past........

That and visible if you watch the visibles you'll see the circulation and the pressure here has dropped substantially, Do not think this is just a low pressure, the wind I've been seeing and the diagonal rain and all the other factors into account wind directional change, etc.. .. along with the clearing up then patching over much like a tropical system, however this thing has formed almost exactly like the unnamed storm did I watched that very close and this is almost like the same situation, this is not nothing.... I'm just saying, I know what you're saying If not sub then I'd lean to extra-trop.

This is definitely warm core and has recently acquired subtropical characteristics. Note how the center has detached from the main frontal zone/warm conveyor belt on satellite loops. Also, look at the cyclone phase diagram:

Seems odd to me that the NHC hasn't mentioned this except in passing. By odd I mean they usually don't miss things so is someone reading this wrong?

Well I know it seemed as a tropical storm to me and I live on the oceanfront in Va Beach I woke up and thought it odd I didn't hear anything about it and checked up and noticed I didn't even see anyone on here talkin about it, I just posted because I though it was very odd to me as well....

It was pretty darn interesting driving home from Atlantic City tonight. The Expressway winds through the back bays for about 4 or 5 miles before hitting the mainland. Talk about white-knuckle driving with an SUV! I thought that this "Nor'easter" seemed to be a bit stronger than what we've usually received.

Whatever it is, it's pretty darn strong.

Don't think a Nor'Easter is warm core ... is it??
