Video for Cat.5 wind?

#1 Postby arkestra » Wed Aug 19, 2009 3:07 pm

Hi,

I wonder if there's any video available for winds of a cat.5 hurricane at that intensity. Cat.4 Charley is very well documented, but I cannot imagine how a cat.5 could be. Since there were only two cat.5 landfalls in the internet era, I believe such shootings are very rare.

Thank you for your help,

Mathieu

Try this website: http://www.vastormphoto.com/. It is run by a member here named Jessie Bass who goes by the screen name of Vacanechaser. If he doesn't have anything he can probably direct you to who does. Hope it helps. :)

Jessie probably has the footage from Charley on there, which was a Cat 4 at landfall...they recorded winds of 140 mph while in the Tahoe.

Perhaps try looking on youtube for video from Hurricane Andrew? I don't know what you'll find for that. Dean and Felix were both Cat 5's at landfall a couple years back...the only thing is, they hit in an area that doesn't have too many people running around with video cameras (like we do here).

I was you-tubing my butt off last night re-visiting Andrew footage showing my 16yr old step-daughter(that wants to experience a hurricane(like I foolishly wanted to do when Andrew came through))what kind of damage a cat-5 can do! But the aftermath just doesn't do it any justice! It would be interesting to see a cat-5 in daylight!!! :double:

One thing you will never see....a news reporter reporting live outside in the eyewall of a Cat 5..unless they are in something like the WTVJ Miami bunker with Bryan Norcross during Andrew.

you know Dan rather would have tied himself to a telephone pole like he did in Andrew and Opal. He also refused to leave Myrtle Beach when Floyd was expected to strike there directly as a 3. He was staying right on the coast

Andrew was a Cat 5 at landfall....well above the 156 mph threshold in re-analysis. There are areas (no video i have seen for obvious reasons) that had 200 mph gusts in south dade.
