Back in Black...sorta

#1 Postby Scott_inVA » Wed Aug 20, 2003 7:27 pm

WREL's server move completed at 5:30PM. Think I've knocked out most of the transfer bugs.

Invest model map on site

*however*

Many people are getting an old cached copy of the page (from Tuesday) or getting nothing at all. It takes a while for routers to "find" our new DNS. Hopefully, if you don't get to the site, you will shortly.

Thanks for your patience and to Chad for covering my bacon today

BTW, you GOMers and Texans should see a noticable increase in speed at our site. The new 'puter we've installed is physically located in Houston, Texas (new home of WREL Online!). We did that because the DC backbone is always clogged, new host offers "burst" bandwidth so we don't choke like during Lili and it is actually one less hop from WREL to HOU than it was from WREL to Washington, DC...go figure.

So now that the maps live in TX, does that make me a Texan? :?

If you're Texan then you have to be a Cowboy or a Texan football fan ;-) The DNS change should propogate in 24 hours to most routers. Some 2nd tier may take 48 hours but that should be the exception. Now you're officiall ready for the season...bring it on! :-)

Hmmm... it's been 48 hours and the DNS should have propigated the entire web by now (tho sobig.f is really slowing everything down).

Have you blown out your cache?
Also Ctrl + F5.

Anyone else stuck in the Twilight Zone?

I was getting the new model map from home last night (RoadRunner) but I'm still getting the old map here from work (Qwest).

WREL does not deploy cookies so that's not an issue w/us.

I was looking at net traffic logs this morning and it amazes me there still IS an Internet functioning! Apparently it just hasn't worked to all routers.

You may want to do a tracert wrel.com.

If you're at 207... that's the new server
208. ... is the old box.
