2010 WPAC Adverse Weather Thread.
I thought I would start a different thread to the Active Storm threads I usually look at. Here in WPAC, we are lucky (or maybe unlucky) that we get adverse or extreme weather. This can be in the form of lightning, thunder, very heavy rains, etc.
When i was in Singapore saw some fantastic lightning, some of the loudest thunder I have ever heard and squally winds.
So this thread is designed for people to put on whats happening in their city or area of the WPAC. Links, pictures are welcome. Singapore over the last couple of weeks has seen some intense rainfall, on one day they had a 1/3 of monthly average causing flooding along its famous Orchard Road.
I will start it off with this weekend in Hong Kong. It has rained ALL weekend with some areas having nearly 20cm of rain yesterday and nearly 15cm of rain so far today.

You in Singapore? I was there for 18 months until October last year. Lived in Pasir Panjang Road. My apartment looked west so saw some amazing squalls come down the from the Malacca straights

While in the Philippines, I saw a number of severe thunderstorms (plus the usual collection of typhoons) and even some low elevation surface hail plus 4 tornadoes of which a photo of one of them tracking across below the base of Mt. Pinatubo hangs on my living room wall.

Severe flooding yesterday after one of the worst storms in a long time. The Met Service puts the early morning storm down to weather patterns influenced by Tropical Storm Conson.
We had 179 mm, or 7 inches, of rain fall in just two hours yesterday morning. For comparison, our mean monthly total for July is just 158.3 mm.

Yes I heard about it. Orchard Road was turned into Orchard "River" again? Was it accomipanied by lightning and thunder?

Incredible storm passing over us at the moment. Ran rates in excess of 150 mm/h; visibility poor, under 1 km.

Black rain again here in HK. 2nd time in a week and before then was over 2 years ago. Last week was due to our rainbands of Chanthu, but this time just due to LPA. Torrential rain and over 2000 lightning strikes in a hour!

Yes, it appeared that way here in HK. Seem to have quite a dry winter and spring. But quite a lot of rain in July. I think Chacor will also suggest Singapore has had above average rain this year, whereas they had quite a dry 2009.

Yeah. I am really a amateur, love this website although find a lot of the terms, what the experts say confusing. It was really only once I moved to Asia 5 years ago, saw the intense rain, thunder, lightning that I became interested in extreme weather. Then when in HK, saw how alarmed and cautious they were about Typhoons, prompted me to join this website.
I know its bad, but would like to experience a proper Typhoon
