Tropical Depression Nine Advisory Number 5

Statement as of 5:00 PM AST on August 22, 2003

...Tropical depression degenerates into a tropical wave...
At 5 PM AST...2100 UTC...the Tropical Storm Warning for the
Dominican Republic and Haiti has been discontinued.

A reconnaissance plane indicates that the tropical depression south
of Hispaniola has degenerated into a tropical wave. Heavy rains and
gusty winds associated with this system will spread over Dominican
Republic and Haiti during the next 24 hours. These rains could
cause life-threatening flash floods and mudslides...particularly in
mountainous areas.
For storm information specific to your area...please monitor
products issued by your local weather office.

This is the last public advisory issued by the National Hurricane
Center on this system unless regeneration occurs.

Well GD...the discussion notes that and says it could regenerate at any time. Looks pretty good to me on satellite!

data from an Air Force plane indicate that the depression no longer
has a closed circulation and it has degenerated into a strong
tropical wave. However...the system has a vigorous middle-level
circulation and a well-defined cloud pattern on satellite...
suggesting that the system could regenerate at any time. In fact
T-numbers are 2.0 and 2.5 on the Dvorak scale. Due to the potential
for reformation...Air Force planes will continue monitoring the
system. If regeneration occurs...warnings will have to be reissued.

Read the discussion. It states that regeneration could occur anytime and recon will still be monitoring this storm.

Heh, maybe its time for a poll on When Will TD#9 Regenerate?

Looks like it has a wider sphere of influence weatherwise than this AM.
