Tropical Weather Outlook
Statement as of 10:30 PM EDT on August 22, 2003
For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico...
Tropical Depression Nine has degenerated into a tropical wave
without a closed circulation and the National Hurricane Center has
issued its last advisory. The axis of the wave is located near and
south of the Dominican Republic and the wave is moving toward the
west-northwest at about 12 mph. This system has the potential to
again develop into a tropical cyclone during the next day or two
and if this occurs...advisories will again be issued.
There are several areas of disturbed weather located over the
tropical Atlantic Ocean associated with westward-moving tropical
waves. Although none of the waves show signs of tropical cyclone
formation...conditions are favorable for slow development during
the next few days.
Elsewhere...tropical storm formation is not expected through
Sunday.
