Need your help with the title of a book about Camille

#1 Postby timNms » Tue Aug 26, 2003 8:34 pm

HELP!! My 5th grade class has been reading about "Nature's Fury" in our reading series. We have been learning about hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, and volcanoes. (SIDE NOTE: the publishers must have had me in mind when developing that unit! That was right down my alley!)Since we live in Mississippi, I talked to them a bit about Hurricane Camille and they have expressed a big interest in the storm. A while back, I read a post on one of the weather boards about a book that was titled "Storm" or something along that line. The book was about Hurricane Camille. It probably was published in the early to mid 70's. Does anyone have a clue what the title is so that maybe I can find a copy of it to read to the class? I've had no luck so far trying to do a search online.

Thanks!
Tim

I can't find such a book, either. But there are quite a few good books on hurricanes at Amazon.com:

I recommend Dr. Bob Sheet's "Hurricane Watch" and also "Isaac's Storm".

If you do a Google search on "Hurricane Camille" (use the quotes) then you'll find hundreds of web sites with photos and stories. That may be all you need.

There is a title if I am not mistaken it's name is but I am not sure who wrote it. But I do know that Walden Books has it.
Weathering "THE STORM" Faith Hope and Charity

Hope that helps.

I've tried a search on Yahoo and Google. Haven't found the book, but have found many links to other interesting things. I just thought that they would enjoy the book.

Thanks again,
Tim

Here's a link to Amazon for an out-of-print book called "Head-on With Hurricane Camille". It ain't cheap, but it might be worthwhile..........

http://www.aoml.noaa.gov/general/lib/lbi.html#Selected%20Hurricane%20Readings/Media%20-%20Elementary,%20Middle%20School

and though it isnt what you asked for, here is a link of age-appropriate material about hurricanes. The book I mentioned before is also on this list.
