Lee Remnants - Aftermath - Reports - NWS warnings

#1 Postby wx247 » Thu Sep 01, 2011 9:49 pm

I figured as we are already beginning to get reports of preparations in those areas under a Tropical Storm Warning that this thread might be prudent.

Down in south lafourche we are getting steady winds out of the south east sustained at about 20-25 mph with higher gusts in squalls. Water is rising due to storm tides. Heard reports that la. One in leeville/fourchon area is starting to flood so la 1 may close soon. Weather is getting rougher as the day goes on.

Tied some stuff down last night in case she shifts toward us but really just preparing for the dissapointment of not getting a good rain again. Looks like we will continue to be 40+ inches down on rainfall for last 2 years.

Lower Terrebonne Parish update

#11 Postby MONTEGUT_LA » Sat Sep 03, 2011 11:19 am

Lafourche/Terrebonne: Here in Pointe-Aux_Chenes, Montegut, La,

The front ditches are overflowing, and water is rising in the backyards. Gators are everywhere. we got 8fter swimming in the backyard. We got 4 acres of land, so it far from the house. As we are driving down HWY 665, we can see baby gators coming out of the front ditches.

Right now winds are about 15mph and its not raining....but more to come later im sure.

Terrebonne: Parts of Dulac, La., mainly lower Shrimper's Row (knee deep) and Ashland North are flooding. A red cross shelter is open at the east Houma gym.

I will updated you more develops. We gonna take a ride and see we can get see pictures and video clips..

Reports from coastal Mississippi via WPMI's website:
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi coastal officials are urging motorists to either stay home or take precautions if out in the heavy rainfall associated with Tropical Storm Lee, especially along U.S. Highway 90.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning through Monday for south Mississippi and large areas of central Mississippi.

Harrison County officials say traveling on Highway 90 has become hazardous because winds from Lee have pushed sand from beach onto the eastbound lanes and the rain has created a situation where drivers cannot see the roadway.

Flooding in Hancock County has left several roadways impassable, and the rain on parts of Interstate 10 at times has been so heavy that visibility was down to only a few feet.

St. Tammany Parish President Kevin Davis urged residents across the north shore to closely monitor water levels in their area Saturday afternoon, as rainfall associated with Tropical Storm Lee is causing rivers and bayous to rise
The West Pearl River, Gum Bayou, French Bayou and Bayou Liberty are showing a 2- to 4-foot increase in water levels, and they are expected to get higher as the storm lumbers through the area.

Additionally, Davis asked people living along the Tchefuncte and Abita River systems accustomed to high waters during major rain events to remain vigilant.

"Take all needed precautions," he wrote in a statement. "Even if you are not experiencing constant rain ..., the water will continue to rise in the major rivers as the rainfall flows downstream."
