According to an article on Icecap, the AMO has gone slightly negative......MGC

Re: AMO turns Negative

I'm confused. According to the November chart, a negative AMO period corresponded with the inactive period of the Atlantic (1970-94), while it became positive around 1995 and pretty much stayed there since November 1997. But the article seemed to say that the recent negativity is a result of very active seasons. Two questions:

1. How come after the very active seasons (2004 and 05, especially) the AMO didn't drop much?

2. This season wasn't very active in terms of ACE and major upwelling hurricanes, so why is the AMO dropping now? Could this be another inactive phase? :double:

:?: :?:

Edit: Okay, so apparently a positive AO/NAO is part of the upwelling, per the article. Can someone explain this?
