Finding old advisories (pre-1998)

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Finding old advisories (pre-1998)

#1 Postby BigA » Tue Jan 03, 2012 2:00 pm

Can anyone help me find access to the public and especially forecast advisories of tropical cyclones before 1998? I cannot find them anywhere on the Hurricane Center web page.

Much thanks.

For the years 1968-1983, try the the NHC Archives at http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/archive/storm_wallets/cdmp/ and click on the name of the hurricane. For the advisories, look especially for folders labeled, "public" or "local." Some storms may also have a folder labeled, "TropDisc" ... for the "tropical discussion" releases.

The amount of material and depth of coverage varies for each storm. Good luck with your search. I, too, enjoy reading the old advisories.
