Archived TCHP Maps Exist

#1 Postby Cyclenall » Mon Jun 04, 2012 3:03 am

If you have gone to the Tropical Cyclone Heat Potential page here, you will have noticed that the archive selection doesn't go back more than 2 years. I wondered why this was and found some other glitches occurring with the loops in the Epac. When I clicked on a TCHP map (for the whole Atlantic), I attempted to modify the URL year to see if anything would happen...it did:

http://www.aoml.noaa.gov/phod/dataphod1/work/HHP/NEW/2005152at.jpg

This for example shows a TCHP map for the entire Atlantic from June 1, 2005!! Normally you wouldn't be able to get this from the "other dates" selection because it doesn't go back past 2 years. Red is year, blue is the day of the year (0-365 for days, sometimes not exact for some reason), and green is the geographical region. It goes back to January 1, 2005. Its not set up probably on their end so for anyone wanting to see archived TCHP maps (or any product from that website), they're on the server.
