Yeah, I miss him too. Can't believe ten years have gone by this fast wihout him. He truly was an original, one of the best hurricane specialists we were blessed to have around that's for certain!

The only other met I can think of who can match the experience of John Hope is George Winterling, formerly of WJXT TV-4 who went into retirement in 2009. He still pops up at the station and blogs in as the station's hurricane specialist. Winterling is legendary in this region. As a matter of fact, WJXT ran a special on him just last night honoring him for his 50 years of service. He was the only televison met in the area who accurately forecast the landfall of Hurricane Dora in Northeast Florida in 1964. I have had the pleasure of meeting Winterling a couple of times and the man is an encyclopedia of weather I can assure you.

The only person I can think of would be Max Mayfield close behind him would be Bob sheets. but still know where near John Hope
most people dont know this about Max Mayfield--- Also in 2004, he received an Emmy Award for extraordinary contributions to television by someone not normally eligible for Emmy awards. In 2005, Mayfield became ABC's person of the week after Hurricane Katrina.

I also had an opportunity to meet Dr. Neil Frank in 1990 when he paid a visit to FSU for a seminar at the Love Building Dept of Meteorology. One of the most fascinating days I will never forget. He is an awesome wealth of knowledge on tropical cyclones and a really great guy to be around.
