TUTTs

#1 Postby Laplacian » Mon Jul 02, 2012 2:37 pm

I'm sure the folks interested in the western Pacific and Atlantic will encounter tropical upper tropospheric troughs (TUTTs) this season. As a way to introduce myself, I thought I'd share a Web page from Meteo 241, which is an online tropical forecasting course I wrote and taught at Penn State.

You can access it here:

https://www.e-education.psu.edu/worldof ... /node/2067

I am retiring this month after 42 years of teaching, but I understand that NHC's Stacy Stewart will be teaching Meteo 241 in the Fall as a Practitioner faculty member. Please keep in mind that there's a prerequisite for Meteo 241 that students must satisfy before they're eligible to take the tropical forecasting course. For more information:

At any rate, I thought I'd share the section on TUTTs just as a way to introduce myself. I copied the page from the password-protected course onto a Web site (A World of Weather) that I sometimes use to give public access to some of my online materials.

A couple of my former students swear by this Web site, so I thought I'd give it a try in retirement.

Thanks.

Laplacian (my friends call me "del square") :)

Welcome again, Laplacian, and thanks for the website. Is Stacey Stewart going to leave the NHC to teach this course?

No.

He's taught other classes in Meteo...I think locally. So this is just a switch from resident instruction to online instruction, which is actually more flexible than traditional classroom teaching.
