TROPICAL STORM GRACE TO BRING RAIN, HIGH TIDES
Galveston County has recommended voluntary evacuation of Bolivar Peninsula in anticipation of high tides and heavy rain Saturday evening and early Sunday associated with Tropical Storm Grace.
The City of Galveston has recommended voluntary evacuation of the West End of the island. Additionally, the City of Jamaica Beach has recommended voluntary evacuation.
The National Weather Service is anticipating tides of 2-3 feet above normal, which combined with a normal high tide of 2 feet Sunday morning means a tide of 5 to 5.5 feet along the beach front.
Tropical Storm Grace is moving northwest at 12 mph and is predicted to make landfall around Matagorda Bay some time Sunday. Galveston County is on the "dirty side" of the storm, meaning citizens can expect substantial rainfall - as much as 4 to 6 inches tonight and tomorrow.
Galveston County has activated its Emergency Operations Center and will continue to monitor the storm. Citizens should stay tuned to local TV and radio for the latest information on Tropical Storm Grace.
