Season Cancel
This season seemed to be like the story of the train that could except I don't think the season can get over the mountain. The 2013 season is almost acting like a El Niño year and I love to track hurricanes without hitting land but I for one am disappointed after all the hype from earlier in the year.

I've been waiting for this thread to show up. I think it's a bit premature though.

In my humble opinion it is pretty unlikely that anything out in the Atlantic at this time is going to amount to much. If we do not see anything of substance form in the eastern Atlantic off the coast of Africa within the next 15 days or so it aint happening.
The Carribean can spin up some monsters in October and of course we have to watch for homebrews that can form along or at the tail of a decaying frontal boundary.

Boca - note for your location in South Florida, October ranks highest with more hurricane strikes for your region than any other month looking back at climatology.
September also ranks highest for most MAJOR hurricane strikes.
Considering it is only Sept. 3rd, surprised about a season cancel thread coming from you so soon.

In what way do say that this is like an El Niño?

season cancel? I don't think so. Plenty of time left. I do believe the longer we go without realistic systems the more we need to lower our expectations, and unless September gets really active fast prospect of a hyperactive season (given where ACE stands) is very, very slim and will bust some of the higher end predictions. We have plenty of time for an average season still, but the longer we go without good activity, the clock is ticking.
Before we were fighting against bad conditions such as shear/sal/stable air etc but now we can add time to it.

Re: Season Cancel
I started this thread more as a joke because I'd like to track something but this year is behaving like a El Niño year with little activity.Im well aware that we have neutral conditions but this season is frustrating to me having really nothing to track. If someone would like me to delete this thread I will,I didn't mean to stir the pot.

If it smells like an egg...

Normally I'd agree, but this season...even george_r_1961 who is a long time member here is thinking its a rotten egg.

Pretty much in every way except the fashion the storms have formed in like the deep tropics instead of the sub-tropics, etc.
CrazyC83 wrote:Also, there could only be one hurricane all year in 2013, but what if that one hurricane was a Katrina? We'd certainly remember 2013 as a horrible year...
I haven't heard that before.

I'd love to see that, even lower than August. Lets blast some records and not only that, but the "0.0" is the ascii emoticon everyone will be making if that comes to pass "

Re: Season Cancel
If the gfs is right, we could see a strong fish hurricane a week or so from now and Euro agrees which strongly supports development.
The ridging is weaker on the gfs and it seems to drive the storm to far to the NW, a lot of that has to do with what it does to 97L as it splits it into two pieces that erode the ridging.
