Favorite Season Timelines and Maps (Any Basin)

#1 Postby Ryxn » Mon Nov 16, 2020 1:31 am

A new and different thread I thought of starting.

For the Atlantic, one of my favorite season maps would have to be 2016 because of how clear and spread out every major hurricane track is from one another. From the top right of the map to the bottom left, you clearly see the CAT 3, 4, 5 and 4 peaks from Gaston, Nicole, Matthew, and Otto. I also like 2017's map for the same reason. With every major being very visible. From right to left, you can clearly see the CAT 3, 3, 4, 5, 5, and 4 peaks from Ophelia, Lee, Jose, Irma, Maria, and Harvey. Both these maps are not as convoluted as 2020's which I don't like as much as 2005's. 2017's timeline looks absolutely crazy Harvey to Maria.

2016: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_At ... ry_map.png

2017: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_At ... ry_map.png

For the East Pacific, 2018 has one of my favorite maps/timelines with how long the tracks were and just how many CAT 4/5 storms were featured. 2010's timeline I also like for its wonky early to late season ratio. I could say the same for Atlantic 1997's timeline.

Any thoughts?

Interesting thread idea, I like it.

As my signature suggests, I'm biased towards the Pacific, and my favorite map/season might be the 1994 Pacific season. You mentioned the 2018 Pacific season, which actually reminded me quite a bit of the 1994 season when it occurred, used the same name list too.
I like how the 1994 map looks like it could be a spaghetti plot for just a few invests. Tracking Cat 5s Emilia, Gilma, and John in real time barreling into the Central Pacific would have been something too, but alas, I was only 4 and didn't even really know about tropical cyclones.

Thanks! And ah yes, 1994. That season's map looks very uniform with lots of east to west tracks with few hiccups. Does very much look like a spaghetti plot haha it's a very concise map for sure.

One of my favorite maps for the West Pacific would have to be 1997 due the crazy amount of SSHWS Category 5 plots. Just looks absolutely surreal. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1997_Pa ... ry_map.png
