Henri NOT likely to become a hurricane

#1 Postby Stormsfury » Fri Sep 05, 2003 1:59 pm

Henri is going through an intense flare-up of convection ... however, hurricane status before landfall .... very doubtful, less than 10% IMO...

There's still a lot of southerly shear impacting the system...but 60 mph is not out of the question due to the latest flareup of convection being observed right now ... That southerly shear wasn't strong enough to allow convection to obscure and wrap around the center... however, look at the latest IR and WV imagery...

As a matter of fact, latest WV imagery indicate the ULL in the Western GOM is moving east and getting ready to impact on Henri once again and BAROCLINIC EFFECTS are enhancing the current convection over the tropical storm...
