Re: How many named storms will form in August?
I voted for five storms. One of these systems will be a surprise powerful hurricane near/over Bahamas

While August is the traditional kickoff for peak hurricane season, the party doesn’t really get started until around the 20th so I tempered my prediction to just a measly 4 storms. I think we’ll have a couple weak disturbances in the first half of the month, followed by two hurricanes in the second half.

Going with 3 for now, with two of them after 8/20
May decide to increase that as we get closer

I am in no way a professional. Take what I say with a grain of salt as I could be totally wrong. Please refer to the NHC, NWS, or SPC for official information.

I'm a bit split between three or four, but I'll go with three for now.

- Average # Aug storms since 1995: 4
- Average # Aug storms during 8 El Nino since 1995: 3
- Only 2 of the 8 El Nino since 1995 had 4+ Aug storms. I don't think this will be the 3rd.
- Average # Aug storms for 11 El Nino 1968-1994: 2 but that's before the very active 1995+ era
So, my initial pick is 3 storms with TCG in August.

I went with 5 NS. I'm guessing that most of them will form in the MDR and recurve well east of 60W, with a possible exception of some W GOM home-grown spin up

I'm going with three. I think it'll start cranking during the second half of the month.

I started to select "none", but that would be -removed-. I picked four. Hoping for a quieter August.

Picked 4, I think this season may have August as its primetime as opposed to last year which had a dead August. Two of these 4 systems could be hurricanes including one major. Northeast Caribbean could be the spot to watch IMO. Hoping that we get fish storms!

Unless explicitly stated, all info in my posts is based on my own opinions and observations. Tropical storms and hurricanes can be extremely dangerous. Do not think you can beat Mother Nature. Refer to an accredited weather research agency or meteorologist if you need to make serious decisions regarding an approaching storm.

Re: Poll: How many named storms will form in August?
Voted three. Don't think it will be a super active month due to the upward motion mainly being in the Pacific, but I still expect it to be much more active than the no-show of August 2022. Wouldn't be surprised to see a major hurricane late in the month, but not before that.

Re: Poll: How many named storms will form in August?
I anticipate an August equivalent of 3/2/1. Thus, I selected “three” for named storm development. Activity picking up around mid-month with the one MH in the latter portion of August.

If a system becomes a TD on 7/31 and a TS on 8/1, is that counted for this purpose as July or August? Also, does the new day start at 00Z?

If something forms today and turns into a TS tommorow, it counts as a July storm formation. I prefer to have midnight EDT as the start of another day to not confuse people, instead of the 00z or 8 PM.
