RA IV Hurricane Committee 2026

#1 Postby ljmac75 » Wed Mar 11, 2026 8:35 pm

You can view the documents by going to the link below and then scrolling down the event, link seems to work. Looks like they turned editing off so there's no risk of vandalism now. I'll put a few highlights below but I think everyone should read it for themselves, it's very interesting work they've been doing.

https://community.wmo.int/site/knowledg ... activities

Some highlights:
The scientific lectures folder has three presentations on AI in forecasting and one on new wind models. They're updating wind products to include major hurricane winds (96+ kt) and to account for friction with land. May switch over to county or area based probabilities, since point probabilities tend to undersell the risk.

RSMC updates has some neat things. They're adding gray X's for disturbances that are not expected to develop. Also they're changing the site design for mobile users at some point.

Me too. Are these official documents or a folder left open accidentally? Are these the documents attendees need to download? Thanks!

These are the powerpoint presentations given at the meeting. I don't think they're open by accident, they're usually available, but it is inconsistent on when and how they become available.
