I am thinking no more than 149mph at least I hope no more than that and less than that would do.

Hopefully no more than 149 mph also, but it looks like we all think she's going to be a monster!

Hugo reached 160 mph east of the islands....and this hurricane looks just as potent -- especially if my theory is correct and the track comes into the Florida Keys from "hurricane alley" (between Cuba and the Bahamas).

Add the fact there have been NO major hurricanes in the EPAC this season...which usually means a couple Atlantic monsters. I think Isabel is one of those monsters, and believe somewhere along her track, cat-5 status will be reached...pressure below 920 mb, and winds of 160 mph or more.

I voted 140-149 before I went to lunch, but didn't get to post about it. There were 2 others who voted that same and that was it for the votes.

I was quite surprised when I came back to check the poll just now.

I believe around 145 mph or so, but Perry's post makes sense. I hope it doesn't get that strong. :o

I agree that Isable will reach Cat 5 - with explosive development underway with Cat three reached already. I give it 48-72 hours.

I went with Cat 5 also. I think at sometime in Isabels future it will attain that status.

A CAT 5 is almost impossible to forecast. Everything has to be just right for that strength to be reached. With the models suggesting some weaking in the future I went with 140-149... :-)

I voted Category 5.

It's been a while. That's my way of thinkin

Plus, it has the 'buzzsaw' shape, meaning this storm is in excellent shape in all quadrants.

I think borderline cat 5...don't know if there is a possibility of reaching quite that cat 5 level but i think it will be close :)

I too said 150 to 155. Close to Cat 5 status, but falling just short.

In light of Hugo's intensity......

#14 Postby Anonymous » Mon Sep 08, 2003 4:10 pm

I'd have to say 160 to possibly 175 mph tops.

But I DO NOT want a cane of that intensity, I want it to weaken and become a fish spinner.

Enough's enough!!!

I would say 150 - 155 mph but I wouldn't be surprised if this was exceeded
