At 11AM they no longer have Isabel passing 20N until 62.5W at 120 hours.

More soon.

So that will be a close call for the islands.

Close call for the islands and something that the residents of the Bahamas and southeast U.S. coastline should keep an eye on as well.

My opinion right now is that everyone living close to water better keep an eye on this thing, because Isabel is definately eyeballing us.

Yes that is much more close to the islands and with the intensity that she has and the area that it covers we may feel effects from her here in Puerto Rico and the northern lewards and the VI so msbee be aware and I hope that those mets in ST Marteen do their job good there.

Would love to see Perry's evaluation of historical data as to potential risk to SE coast. I am leaning toward a Caroilina impact , not sure if South or North.

Why?

#7 Postby Stormcenter » Mon Sep 08, 2003 2:06 pm

Why would you think MAJOR hurricane is going to strike your area? I would be praying that it wouldn't instead of guessing that it would.

That's a pretty loaded and unfair question, isn't it? This board is not concerned with praying but looking at the meteorology and making judgement calls - whether they are lay persons, experts, or quasi-experts.

Against that background why would you pose such a question?

As of now it should pass north of the islands, but it is going to be close. :o

If it takes much of a WSW track at all the islands could still get hammered. Noone is in the clear on this one yet including the eastern GOM folks

Fair question

#12 Postby Stormcenter » Mon Sep 08, 2003 2:49 pm

I asked that question because it seems to me that everywhere someone has the ANY storm going is where they happen to live. It's NOT just me.

Tom, climatologically....Isabel could easily impact the southeast Coast. There have been so many intense landfalling hurricanes in mid-September over the years....including most of Florida's worst (1926 Great Miami hurricane; 1928 San Felipe; severe Miami-Homestead cat 3 in 1945; 1947 Ft Lauderdale-Naples cat-4; Donna in 1960).

This hurricane is IMO a great threat to the Southeastern U.S....and possibly the entire Atlantic Seaboard (i.e.- Donna in 1960). Coastal residents from the Florida panhandle and peninsula all the way to Maine need to monitor this hurricane very closely.

Why do people want to Scuba Dive with Great White's?

Some may actually enjoy the thrill of the danger. I'm not wanting anything major to come my way but I couldn't do anything about it either, so might as well make the best of it if it did. As a weather enthusiast and follower I can speak for many who would find it dangerously interesting to go through such a storm even though I would pray for the best for everybody. But like I said, we can't change it rather we wanted it or not.

The way it's been in this part of florida..lately with all the heavy rain..a cat 1 would be bad news. So while I love weather and action..right now ..I wish all storms away from florida. Any other year I would be eager to see some action. This year humanity precedes my enthusiasm..I have seen too many people that have lost their homes and everything they have worked for..it's sobering :o

Just praying here that it doesn't due a Floyd and ride up the whole coast and smack into NC or SC..neither of them, like Florida, need any more rain. The whole south east has be rained out with few exceptions so no one needs even a Cat 1.

With a storm like our lady seems to be shaping up to be it's got everyone on edge. I don't think it's so much that people want her to hit them or -removed- as it's more of a 'It would be just my luck we'd get it here' effect.

And itsn't it a fact that we all post here and follow tropical systems because we are amazed and admire what mother nature does. It's a power that we as humans have no control over even though we affect so much on our planet. Hurricanes have a tendency to set us in our place and we can't help but be awed by them...

I sensed that my question to Perry was taken out of context. I happen to respect Perry's ability to provide excellent historical data. I happen to have a 30th wedding anniversary planned for the 15 - 18 in Myrtle Beach. Due to my job, I'm a paramedic in Wilmington, if Isabel were to come this far north, my plans would be (almost literally) blown away. So, yes, I guess there was a selfish motive in my request.
At this point, I have my gut feeling as to the future of this storm, but at my wife's request, I'm holding back in vernalizing same.
I would like to encourage anyone from Key West to Virginia to keep a close eye on this storm. I didn't mention the islands because it is my believe that they keep their ears and eyes open for all.
