We need your help

#1 Postby chadtm80 » Wed Sep 10, 2003 8:07 pm

Hello Everyone.. Hows everything going? Good I hope.. The Admin team really needs your help and cooperation for the next month or so... We are becoming Victims of our own monster, Storm2k :D All of our hopes and dreams for this site have not only come true, but we have gone way above anything any of us even imagined.. We have not yet made it to our one year and we are almost up to 1,000 members... The word is out.. Storm2k is one of the MOST preferred Weather sites on the net at the present time.. :D :D :D Im not tooting our own horn here Ladies and Gentleman, I am stating a fact.. And what a fact it is :D :D :D Out of all the years mfdolphin, Ticka, and I have been part of the weather boards scene have we ever seen anything like this.. We are now averaging 299,000 hits per day... :shocked!: and there are people on the site 24/7.. We have members from all over the country as well as all over the world... Things couldn't be going any better for us :D

Now, with all that said.. We need your help and cooperation for at least the remainder of the Hurricane Season (our busiest time of the year, hands down) We have been flirting ever so closely to exceeding our bandwith limit for the last couple of months now, and with the latest member boom we have had, we are just about to go over our limit this month.. If we were to continue on the same average we have been doing so far this month it would put us over on about the 16th.. Check your calendars folks, thats just 6 days away.... and we have to make it till the 30th before our account will recycle. The Admin team has been meeting on this issue for a few days now, and trying to come up with a solution, that works out for the site, and at the same time, keeps all of you happy here at storm2k :D We do have a template that is called "subrebel" that is very bandwidth friendly.. It does not show Avatars or signature lines, which GREATLY reduces the bandwith usage. Our fist thought was to just force everyone to use this template from behind the scenes, but we just realy do not want to do that.. We want everyone to be happy, and fell some what in control here.. So what we decided to do, is Kindly ask for people to take a break from using there Avatars and Graphic signatures for a while... You can just go into your profile and remove them... This would help us out SOOOOOOOOOO MUCH, and would be GREATLY appreciated.. We would also like to encourage anyone that dosent mind using the "Low" graphic template to please switch over to the "subrebel" template... Just go to your profile, and change the "board style" to subrebel, and then scroll to the bottom of the page and click submit.. Another thing that is realy eating away at our bandwith is all the pictures that our posted in the posts themselves with the image tags.... (I am the number 1 person when it comes to doing that one  ) Again it would be greatly appreciated if you would just post the link for us to click on to go see the picture rather then making the image viewable here within your posts..

The Admin team dosent ask much, and we do our best to make sure everyone has a fun, and educational time here.. And that is the very reason we our making these requests today... Please help us out, and make these changes ASAP, so we can continue to be the BEST WEATHER SITE ON THE NET!!!!! If any further actions are needed in this matter we will let you know right away...

Thanks For your cooperation in this matter.

i changed to the subrebel board format but think that many folks aren't getting the message because the first thread on this index is usually glossed over. perhaps you could do something else to get everyone's attention - there are a lot of pics and avatars running around tonight, including some from the moderators. :bwink:

Ya, JJ we are still getting the word out... This is the first people are hearing about it.. And just one more thing for everyone that is switching to the Subrebel template for us.. Please also go ahead and remove your avatar and Sig line as well from your profile.. Cause while on subrebel it wont show up for you, but it is still viewable by everyone else not on that template, thus still using bandwith.. Thanks for your cooperation everyone :D

I've been using subrebel for quite a while now and the pages load so much faster for me (even on cable line).

Using subrebel now, and a suggestion...

#15 Postby soonertwister » Wed Sep 10, 2003 8:31 pm

isn't what you are really talking about $$$ and cents?

If you set up a voluntary donation system, and give people a general idea of what the cost of running this board is, then I'll bet that the good people who visit this board would help out enough to easily ease the pain.

Just one suggestion if you set up for donations - use PayPal. It's universally accepted, very secure, and very easy to use.

I've even been known to put my own precious money into the pot when I thought the product I was being delivered was worth it. Without site ads, a popular website can incur considerable unrecovered expenses, and there is no reason whatsover that the costs can't be shared.

Just my .02.

DONATIONS FOR STORM2K WEBSITE

#16 Postby Guest » Wed Sep 10, 2003 8:36 pm

Yes soonertwister - I am the site accountant and any donations would be greatly welcomed. You can donate via PAYPAL at http://www.paypal.com - just send me a PM and i'll give you all the information you need.

If you would rather send money via snail mail - send me a PM and I'll give you my address for the donations.

Any and all donations would be greatly appreciated. If you have any questions please let me know and I'll answer to the best of my ability.

Sincerely,
Patricia aka Ticka1
