This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Interesting Afternoon discussion from NWS Pittsburgh

#1 Postby tomboudreau » Mon Sep 15, 2003 2:54 pm

I just read the afternoon discussion from the Pittsburgh office and this is what they mentioned about Isabelle and the remnants for Thursday night and Friday. The discussion came out at 2:30 this afternoon.

THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS SHOULD BE NICE BEFORE THE REMNANTS OF ISABEL
ARRIVE. IT IS STILL TOO EARLY TO PINPOINT A TRACK OR INTENSITY FOR
THE STORM. THE CURRENT INDICATIONS ARE THAT THE AREA COULD SEE HIGH
WINDS AND SIGNIFICANT RAINFALL ON THURSDAY NIGHT AND FRIDAY.

Just wanted to share

I think Pittsburgh will receive less rainfall, as well as the rest of Western PA...because it will be on the left side of the storm, where there will be less rainfall...I think .5 -1.5" in Western PA and 2-5" in Central and Eastern PA, where we DON'T need it.

Colin - I would only agree with your rainfall totals if Isabel is moving at 35+ MPH. If not, those numbers will have to be increased.

I believe eastern Pennsyslvania could receive substantially more rainfall than 2 to 5 inches in many areas with this storm. Some areas could receive that amount in a couple of hours depending on the track of this system. It's been awhile since Pennsylvania has been under a direct path close to landfall--last year I received 19" in 24 hours with Isidore here in New Orleans--it was fairly spread out over the 24 hours so there wasn't any major flooding in my part of town--just a handful of homes flooded and under 1000 auto's flooded in Uptown.
