hung off the N. Carolina coast it seems like forever and just kept looping around. This went on for weeks. Anyone remember?

Was that Floyd?? He never did make landfall, just teased the ?hit out everyone on the EC.

Dennis? If I remember the name right...he side swiped us then went out into the ocean..and came back to hit us again LOL was the storm only a few weeks before Floyd and why NC flooded so bad... And gosh that thing lasted forever! *groans with the memory*

I don't remember. Maybe someone will know which one that was. Hmmm..3-4 years ago..was it Floyd? I don't remember it looping around, but I know one did, just can't remember which one.

Don't remember the name of that storm, but it hung around so long that incredible amounts of salt spray built up on the coastal area trees. lot of the pines never recoved and ended up dying by the following spring.

Thanks Nature - I know it skimmed the Jersey Coast but still brought alot of flooding up and down the EC.

I forgot about Dennis.

It was Dennis, but he was weak when landfall happened which set up perfectly the devastation which would ocuur 2 weeks later when Floyd came and stalled inland (i think).

This looks to be our 6th landfalling tropical storm in the past 7 years.

The storm in question that lingered on and on and on was in fact Dennis of '99, followed by Floyd, followed by massive inundation of the eastern third of the state.

Floyd hit NC very hard. I remember it extremely well...counted every tree as it fell. Dennis was the meandering storm.

Yes it was Dennis.

On Aug 30 1999 Cat 2 Dennis stay off the shores of NC but close enough to tease us with some rain, moved ENE a bit then did a loop and came back on Sept 5 as TS Dennis and made landfall, dumping some more rain on us. This was followed up on Sept 16 by cat 2 Hurricane Floyd who came ashore and let loose the rain which seemed to never stop. The result was disasterous. Goosebumps still pop up when I think about it.
