Need Explaination Please

#1 Postby debbiet » Tue Sep 16, 2003 10:02 am

Could someone explain why the images of Isabelle look like she is re-organizing somewhat (even looks that way to me as layperson) yet the latest update shows her down to a Cat 2 storm now. It appears that looks are deceiving...sorry, but since I don't really know much of anything...every little bit helps :-) Thanks!

On the IR you can see the convection is very weak around the center of Isabel, meaning likely weaker winds...however, the outflow pattern looks favorable for intensification if the central core can get itself back together.

Well the latest update was taken at 1047am so whatever has happened with izzy since then has not been measured and posted on all the news and weather sites. I think the next update comes either at 2pm or 5pm. I know they start doing these update more freqently as storms get closer to the us so thats y i said 2pm. But i do agree she is starting to shape up. The outflow does look a lot lot better!

JetMaxx hit it head on, you need to look at IR to determine the temperature of the cloud tops near the center or eye, if she gets hers back. Visible usually can only show structure but not dynamics or cloud tops.
