Sea Level, NC? Evac or no?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Sea Level, NC? Evac or no?

#1 Postby GalvestonDuck » Tue Sep 16, 2003 1:35 pm

Someone just came to me and said one of her relatives lives in Sea Level, NC and asked if Isabel was coming that way. Looks close to me but just to the west of the projected path. SL is near Morehead City (had a hard time finding a map to determine where). Should he evacuate? Anyone in NC know just how close to "sea level" it is? Does it flood?

The elevation at the airfield near there is 11ft. BUT here is a link to the hurricane statement and it doesnt sound too bad. I'd still keep my guard up though.

Sea Level is 20 miles or so east of Morehead City-all of eastern Carteret County is low in elevation-Sea Level would flood in a cat 3 passing over or to its west. It is located on a small bay overlooking Core Sound-the whole area may be 3-5 feet above sea level if that much.

I am positive a friend of mine told me last night that they were evacuating her grandmother from Sea Level.

It's not that far as the crow flies from Morehead City.

Thanks, gang! I just brought her back in and showed her the info you guys provided. She's going to call him now. Originally she was going to wait and call after work.
