Yes it will rain in a big area, maybe some tornadoes, there will be a storm surge but having said that thankfully Isabel will not be that monster cat 5 hurricane when it was north of Puerto Rico but it will make landfall as a cat 1 bordering cat 2 but it would be a big disaster for NC and VA if she haven't been attacked by the dry air.

Is Isabel a wet storm?

- Some of the worst Hurricanes have been Category 1-2 in that portion of the US.

Connie + Diane - 1955
http://weather.unisys.com/hurricane/atlantic/1955/index.html

Agnes -1972

Gloria - 1985

Bob - 1991

Also could the timing of Isabel be bad with landfall expected during high tide?

I have been thinking the same thing. High tide for the outer banks of NC up through VA Beach is early this afternoon. This could certainly make coastal flooding a BIG problem.

I also don't think she will be as wet of storm as she could have been either. IMO

Indeed, thank God that Isabel became weaker before striking land.
