That's from the new 5 pm NHC advisory....

Winds gusted to 97 mph at Elizabeth City and 95 mph at Plymouth, NC within the past two hours...and they are inland, so gusts of 110-120 mph were likely over the water and Outer Banks.....add in the storm surge compounded by occurring around high tide, and I'm afraid we'll learn tomorrow there's extensive damage along the Outer Banks and adjacent areas near Pamlico and Albermarle Sound. The last hurricane this intense to pass just west of the Outer Banks was Donna in 1960...and there's been a lot of expensive property built in the Nags Heads to Buxton area since then. The Morehead City and Atlantic Beach area also saw winds over 90 mph...but the storm surge was far less due to the eye passing east of that area.

I also saw a LSR from Wakefield WSFO where Hampton, VA reported 83 mph winds, considerable roof damage; and a tidal surge of 8-9' resulting in extensive flooding. Winds at the Virginia Beach buoy were gusting over 90 mph at 3 p.m.
