Prelude of things to come

#1 Postby SWV » Thu Sep 18, 2003 5:30 pm

Here in Baltimore life is getting a little more interesting..wind is kicking up trees are swaying...lights are flickering. We're doing the last minute essentials: showers, filling bathtubs, feeding the dogs (because our electic fence will go out). Baltimore County has openned some shelter in areas with rivers. I've try to prepare the kids with some "what ifs", fortunately I think we're fairly well protected. Hopefully I'm correct in my belief. Take Care Susan

Good luck, Susan and please keep us updated if you can. Sounds as if you may be in for a rough night. One thing I distinctly remember prior to Luis in St. Maarten was the radio warning that a hurricane during the dark of night will be terribly frightening to children so please keep them close and reassured. We often talk about the animals here but I've never seen a reference to a child's reaction. I know you will be safe but it could get "hairy". Take care. Lynn

One thing I use to do with my kiddo was have a camp out hurricane party! She still remembers it. We would make a bed away from the windows with some blankets and pillows and eat snacks and color and play games and then let her watch movies (if the electric was still on) or play finger puppets with the flashlights and tell stories. Made it so fun for her she didn't ever even think to be scared...believe it or not it worked and she never cried!

Does anyone know how Richmond, VA is doing? I don't want to clutter up the phone lines by trying to call in at this time, but I do have relatives I'm concerned about in Midlothian.
