Pics from north central Maryland

This is just showing the storm surge and it's aftermath. Pretty devastating. Some of the hardest hit areas includes Millers Island in southeastern Baltimore County and Turner Station in Dundalk. Fells Point and even downtown Baltimore. The WTC in downtown Baltimore is closed for over a month due to flood damage in it's basement. Everything that controls the electricity of the WTC was in the basement and they were destroyed. Just another casuality in this storm.

WTC

#5 Postby WXBUFFJIM » Mon Sep 22, 2003 5:43 pm

It's the world trade center in downtown Baltimore. That 28 story pentagonal building is shut for over a month. All of the things that control the WTC power is in the basement, which was flooded. So all of that is destroyed. It will definitely take months, not weeks to totally get things back to normal in these hurricane impact zones from Maryland southward into Virginia and North Carolina. Even the outer banks is split into two in and near Hatteras and I understand 300 people are trapped there as a result of that.

Thanks for posting those Jim. Incredible pictures.

And I echo Stephanie's sentiments - have you heard from our dear VA Beach friends?

I hope soon...

#8 Postby WXBUFFJIM » Wed Sep 24, 2003 11:47 am

I echo both of your comments. I haven't heard from rainstorm yet. I'm growing more worried about the gal. I've known her for over 14 months and she's very sweet and friendly. She may have a different perspective on tropical systems than some folks here. But then again after experiencing isabel, you would figure she has a story to tell and possibly a whole new perspective on tropical systems. I just hope rainstorm comes back soon safe and sound. Damaged property is one thing. But to see her back soon would be awesome!!!

I think and pray for rainstorms return!!!!

It's amazing how many people were greatly affected by Isabel, and to think she was only a cat 2 :o

Jim---

Thanks for the info about Baltimore. I was up there in February at the National Federation for the Blind for some classes. You haven't heard how they fared down on Johnson St., have you? They have all that construction going on, I hope it didn't mess that up.
Wow! The WTC is that damaged?! We had a blast up there. And I loved Fells Point. Any word on how Jimmy's fared?

Proves again that this was no over-hyped, nor minor, nor "disappointing" event. Although 60 mph gusts may not be a big time event in Florida or along the eastern coast, 60 mph inland gusts with saturated soil and several hours of sustained 40mph, will damage a lot of trees which envelope a lot of power lines and will push a ton of water inland.

Boston has a World Trade Center, too. I assume that a lot of other cities do, as well.

WTC in Baltimore

#15 Postby WXBUFFJIM » Thu Sep 25, 2003 7:37 pm

Yes Baltimore has the tallest pentagonal building in the United States, the 28 story pentagon shaped world trade center. Unfortunately water was 16 feet in the basement of Baltimore's WTC. Everything that controlled the electrical power was down in their basement. It will take over a month to repair the power outage at the world trade center in Baltimore. The surge even flooded some downtown streets near the Baltimore harbor!!

40 blocks of fells point was flooded. Jimmys was flooded also. I don't know the status on the losses down there though. It will take time to recover.
