Finally Checking in from Gloucester, Virginia

#1 Postby debbiet » Tue Sep 23, 2003 5:22 pm

New member to this board...joined a few days ahead of Isabelle. The info was wonderful and regardless of NHC's classification of Isabelle...JETMAXX was right on about its destructiveness being greater than anyone bargained for. It is awful here. Isabelle was anything but a bust with many coastal residents losing everything...and nearly EVERYONE having some storm damage. We made out fine...lost some shingles, some shutters and some siding, but in the grand scheme of things we lost nothing! Worst flooding here anyone can remember since Hazel. Trees down EVERYWHERE. Our power is still off, finally got a generator so I can get on line now. Have a couple of neat pics from marina/boat damage here...if someone can tell me how to post them I'll get them up.

Thanks to all of you for your thoughts and prayers for those of us in Isabelle's path!

Great to know you are ok!!! Hope all returns to normal soon!!! I know how nasty it is when you are without the power for such a long time. WE are still waiting on several members from your area to check in. I'm sure they are still without power and may not have generators so we wait and pray and hope. If there is any good that has come out of Isabel, it is that millions have been educated to what an even "minimal"(by definiton) hurricane can do!!

WOO-HOO The Power is Back on at HOME!

#13 Postby debbiet » Thu Sep 25, 2003 7:25 pm

Thanks to ALL of you for the warm welcomes and wishes! It's really great to be made to feel such a part of this board. Finally got power back on this afternoon...one week without it, almost to the exact hour! Life is beginning to take on some semblance of normalcy again...for me. For thousands, that won't be happening for a long, long time. :?

I just want to say to anyone who has family or friends who work for a power company that are working on Isabelle storm restoration...how much we in Virginia appreciate everything these folks are doing to get us back up and running. The guys who got our power on today were from BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA!!! So they are my new personal heros! :P But there are folks here from all over the place...even had a convoy from QUEBEC come into town yesterday (Isn't that amazing).

This is the biggest power restoration in Virginia's history...all thanks to Isabelle.

Speaking of convoys, I saw one yesterday consisting of trucks with cherry pickers on the way to work heading to the south. I immediately thought that they were on their way down there as well.

It is nice to see people from all over the country helping their nieghbors out! I'm glad that you're "back to normal"! :D
