SIMILAR 1998?

#1 Postby AussieMark » Thu Sep 25, 2003 10:50 pm

I was wondering if anything agrees with me that this year reminds them of 1998.

1 East coast landfall
several Gulf of Mexico landfalls.

All that is missing is a Caribbean and Central America strike (not -removed-)

By end of September
in 1998

11 Tropical Storms
6 Hurricanes
2 Major Hurricanes

in 2003 so far
10 Tropical Storms
4 Hurricanes
2 Major Hurricanes.

I expect a major October hurricane in the Caribbean...possibly a strike on southern Florida.

A hurricane as intense as 1998's cat-5 Mitch I doubt, but a cat-4 won't surprise me a bit.

Well historically there have been numerous Catergory 4 's in recent years during October/November in the Guld of Mexico/Caribbean Sea.

2002-Lili
2001-Iris, Michelle(November)
2000-Keith
1999-Lenny(November)
1998-October

Also the fact that the Caribbean Sea is warm and ready for action and a developing storm that even moved over the area could endure a explosive deepening phase.
