Tropical weather discussion
NWS TPC/National Hurricane Center Miami FL
805 PM EDT Tue 14 Oct 2003
Tropical weather discussion for North America...Central
America...Gulf of Mexico...Caribbean Sea...and Atlantic Ocean
to the African coast from the Equator to 32n including northern
sections of South America. The following information is based
on satellite imagery... weather observations...radar...and
meteorological analysis.
Based on 1800 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through
2315 UTC.
Special features...
Tropical Depression Nineteen is centered near 11.2n 42.3w at
14/2100 UTC moving west-northwest at 9 kt. Maximum sustained
wind speed is 30 kt with gusts to 40 kt. Estimated minimum
central pressure is 1006 mb. See latest NHC forecast/advisory
under AWIPS/wmo headers miatcmat4/wtnt24 knhc for more details.
Although the low-level circulation center remains partially
exposed...latest satellite imagery depicts improved organization
with new deep bursts developing near the center. Enhanced
infrared imagery reveals very cold tops over the eastern half of
the system. Modest southerly shear is expected to hinder the
tropical cyclone...however...not preventing some strengthening
before possibly moving into significantly stronger
southwesterlies north of 15n. Numerous strong convection from
10n to 12n between 39w and 42w. Scattered moderate from 8n to
13n between 36w and 39w.
