I'm waiting on a phone call from my sister which lives in Guam. Is the Typhoon going to get near them? Last I heard they were doing the usual preparing and waiting for the official word. Thanks.

Welcome Karebare, try this website for the informatin you need: http://www.nrlmry.navy.mil/tc_pages/tc_home.html
Click on the blue map and you will find Guam. It looks like the typhoon will pass south of Guam, so I hope your sister will be OK.

Thanks a lot. I finally talked with her late last night and she said they are ready. It's weird. They are on a 48 hour alert. Which means make sure generators are ready all things gassed up and plenty of canned foods. They are batting down the hatches. She says they, the inspectors, will go around today and inspect to make sure all is ready. Oh ya they are military. Pretty weird, but I guess it makes some sense. She will call again after they get their 24 hour warning. Again thanks alot.

Again thanks. My sister called again and they are battened(?) down. She says they will get some good winds but shouldn't be that bad. It's weird with how things are handeled there. You don't see that here. She says it does take a while to get use to it all. Some of the stories she tells are just too funny.
Also just to let ya all know I have browsed other boards and this is the best one I have seen. At least here nobody intentionally hurts other people feelings and so on.... I'll tell you I don't know how to read the weather so the info you pass on is very helpful and just maybe I might learn something. So please be patient with me if I happen to ask a stupid question. Thanks again.

Thanks for all the welcomes. Cheesy-poofs, Clarksville is not to far from Columbia. Hopefully this years weather will be better than last. We moved down from Boston and my gosh. We have seen everything. I can deal with the snow, but the tornadoe warnings, no more. My kids were held in school last year because of one. A tornadoe came down right up the street in Ellicot City. I do like the thunder storms, but every single time we get one the power goes out. The weather is fascinating until it's knocking on your back door. LOL The hurricane last year helped trim my trees. LOL I think we were the only ones in our neighborhood who didn't tape up our windows. The winds were unreal. Got a little scary when we heard a tree snap, then I was wishing I had taped up the windows. The tree that had snapped was a few doors down. My husband said the wind must have carried the sound. It sounded like it was in our yard. Okay I have rattled on enough. The flower beds are calling for help.

We received a lot of wind with some rain. Heard a tree snap. I was ready to run. Where I don't know. My kids and cats thought I was nuts. Oh well. I did learn though tape up the windows and so on. You never know what is going to happen. We just had a lot of tree limbs fall. It was kind of funny, everybody raking up leaves in September when they don't fall until late October. Oh well just never under estimate mother nature. Best wishes to all those who lost it all and are still waiting for help. Unbelievable!!
